Reply with quote | #1 | Hi everyone!
We have recently started a new club on Long Island for Cowboy Mounted Shooting.
For those not familiar with this exciting equine sport, it is a time event much like barrel racing. Only when we run a pattern, we also shoot balloons from horseback. It is incredibly fun. It is also suitable for various levels of experience - beginners compete against other beginners, experienced riders compete against other experienced riders.
Believe it or not, this sport is not only very popular out west, it is also big in New England. Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine all have active clubs. Ours is the first New York club of its kind and we are based right here on Long Island.
Our first competition will be held on August 16 at Old Bethpage Village Restoration.
We are currently scheduling clinics and practices to teach the game to new riders and their horses.
Our first clinic is set for Sunday, June 21 at Hidden Pond Stables in Manorville. This is the perfect opportunity to learn more and introduce your horse to Cowboy Mounted Shooting. We will teach you everything you need to get started. This is a very beginner friendly sport.
More information and registration forms are available at our website:

Reply with quote | #2 | Good luck Joe. I don't think Fester would enjoy it much, but I know I would.
I enjoyed talking to you at Bill's.

Reply with quote | #3 | Sounds like fun. Will there be any clinics further west than Manorville? __________________ Marvin Glassmann |

Reply with quote | #4 | Marvin,
Ideally I would like to have several more clinics. The problem is getting locations. I am in contact with a few barns that have expressed interest in hosting a clinic, and am waiting to hear back.
If you, or anyone else, knows of a barn that would like to host a clinic, please put them in touch with me.
Thanks,
--Joe |

Just completed our second practice clinic and it was a ball.Since it is open to all levels of shooter, some of who had never shot a gun or had a horse exposed to the sound. Everyone learned something in this safe and controlled environment. Many riders were members of NSHA, so it was great meeting up with old acquaintenaces and meeting new one . A very supportive and congenial group. Both horses and riders were able to get desentitized the sounds in a slow and methodical fashion. Come to the soon to be announced next one. __________________ Marvin Glassmann |
